We were fortunate this year to be with Scott and Amy and their family for Thanksgiving. Suzie (Amy's mom) had Thanksgiving at her house. Kevin had to work in the morning, so I got up and took him to work at 3AM. Of course I couldn't go back to sleep so I went shopping. It's the best time to go to Walmart... I came home and did a deep cleaning of my kitchen and the promptly went to work undoing all the cleaning. I decided to make my first Apple pie- I don't really like apple pie so I had never attempted it. I got the apples cut and the crust made, put in the oven, and was working on the crumble top (dutch apple pie). I reached in the oven and took out the pie to add the topping. As I was working on the topping my house started to fill with smoke- I opened the oven and discovered I had somehow dropped an oven mitt in the oven when I was pulling out the pie. We have a gas oven so it was even worse. I panicked a little then decided to through the oven mitt out the back door as my fire alarms were going off. I ran and opened all the windows (I guess I wanted my neighbors to hear that I was starting a fire), then went back out the back door to check on the fiery oven mitt. The deck was singed so I had to move the oven mitt again to the concrete. What an exciting morning! After all was said and done- I only lost and oven mitt and the pie turned out great.
I picked up Kevin from work around noon and we headed to Suzie's house. We made a pit stop at Marie Calendar's for a second pie (I couldn't risk my house again). We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with lots of yummy food! After we were all cleaned up we went and saw "Bolt" with everyone. It's a cute movie, I'm glad we went with the kids.
I took my camera with me intending to take pictures but we had to much fun eating and talking...
